چکیده

Tone classification is a necessary part for Thai speech recognition. This paper present the work based on our former work described in our published paper ref. [1] and the published paper ref. [2]. Several configurations of tone classification front-end for large vocabulary Thai speech corpus are implemented and compared. They include the tone-critical segments, feature setting, frequency scale, normalization techniques. The experiments are also presented and discussed. Finally we get 72.21% accuracy for a large vocabulary Thai continuous speech corpus described in ref. [3] which includes 5726 tones (training set: 4506, testing set:1220).

A Hidden Conditional Random Field-Based Approach for Thai Tone Classification

In Thai, tonal information is a crucial component for identifying the lexical meaning of a word. Consequently, Thai tone classification can obviously improve performance of Thai speech recognition system. In this article, we therefore reported our study of Thai tone classification. Based on our investigation, most of Thai tone classification studies relied on statistical machine learning approa...

A study of tone classification for continuous Thai speech recognition

This paper presents a study of tone classification for continuous Thai speech recognition. A modified autocorrelation algorithm was implemented with pitch detection, and the tone classifier utilized 3-layer feed-forward neural network with back-propagation. The best performance configuration of tone features was obtained with semi-tone scaling and mean-normalization producing a classification a...

Classification of Thai Tone Sequences in Syllable-Segmented Speech Using the Analysis-by-Synthesis M - Speech and Audio Processing, IEEE Transactions on

Tone classification is important for Thai speech recognition because tone affects the lexical identification of words. An analysisby-synthesis algorithm for classifying Thai tones in syllable-segmented speech is presented that uses an extension to Fujisaki’s model for tone languages that incorporates tonal assimilation and declination. The classifier correctly identifies all of the tones in 89....

Classification of Thai consonant naming using Thai tone

This paper proposes the novel technique for separation of Thai consonant naming or consonant spelling using its tones. Consonant spelling is used for many applications such as a voice-actuated typewriter that helping to correct the confusable word in sound. Because fundamental frequency (F0) can be suitably used in tone classification for Thai speech recognition, which is tonal language of five...

Perceptual assimilation of lexical tone: The roles of language experience and visual information

Using Best's (1995) perceptual assimilation model (PAM), we investigated auditory-visual (AV), auditory-only (AO), and visual-only (VO) perception of Thai tones. Mandarin and Cantonese (tone-language) speakers were asked to categorize Thai tones according to their own native tone categories, and Australian English (non-tone-language) speakers to categorize Thai tones into their native intonatio...
